Only a few movies can do a trilogy and each one is better than the one before. To make this even more impressive is that it was not designed for a trilogy. The movie ended at each stage conclusively. It was not like a Lord of the Rings or a Star Wars that you knew there was more to follow.
So, as usual, if you have not watched the movie, stop reading now. There are spoilers in this piece, not a lot but some people don't want to know anything about a movie before watching.
Let's begin; the opening was a little slow for the first 30 seconds then BOOM! Or was the start of the second Iron Man. Nope it was this one as well. The movie ticked on nicely with lots of humor and loads of action. The boy that saved IM (Iron Man and not Instant Messenger) was the best comic side kick they could have found.
Now the plot was simple and straight forward.
Bad guy wants to rule the world, ticks off IM, IM calls him a coward, bad guy blows up IM's pad and all those lovely lovely cars, IM saves his chick, gathers his shit together and escapes to a back water town to fix his sweet mobile multi part suit. Finally, IM comes back from the dead and kicks arse.
Now I missed out the funny personal robots in Starks pad, those guys are a riot. Everyone should have personal robots with a sick sense of humor. The suits of course where mega cool as well. The main one being the multi flying parts suit. At the end when he commanded the suit to stick to the baddie and self destruct was really nice but the best part was when he used it to save Pepper Potts. This set the tone for a very nice movie.
The icing on the cake was of course Sir Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin. He was the man. Changing from a hard no nonsense mass murdering terrorist to Trevor Slattery, a drugged out, happy go lucky womanizing British stage actor. Two lines that stood out for Trevor, don't go in there for at least a few hours and of course, "˜they didn't promise to get me off drugs, they promised to get me more". Sir Ben was just brilliant. The Mandarin twist was a huge success. Most diehard comic readers will not like it but ; this is Holly Wood and we loved it.
The suits battle at the end, the exploding Pepper and the true villain being the president's top scientist and former nerd looking super geek was a great inclusion in an awesome movie.
Marvel hits a home run again, it is looking more and more like Marvel have DC well and truly beaten.
The movie was really good and I can't wait for IM4. A big 8 out of 10 from the Duke.
