For as long as I can remember, my fashion philosophy has been simple.. if it's not comfortable, I'm probably not wearing it. I've always gravitated towards clothes that feel light, breathable and free. I love fabrics that move with me rather than cling to me. I prefer outfits that give me room to breathe instead of constantly reminding me they're there. While others might chase the latest trends or else else else the flashiest pieces, my first question has always been, 'How does it feel'. For years, I believed I had to choose between comfort and style. It seemed like the fashion world was constantly telling us that looking good required a little discomfort Tight silhouettes, Restrictive fabrics, Shoes that looked amazing but punished your feet after an hour. The message was clear, beauty demanded sacrifice.
I never fully bought into that idea. The older I have become, the more I've realised something important...comfort and style are not opposites, They are partners. An outfit does not become stylish simply because it is trendy, it becomes stylish because of the confidence with which it is worn. The same oversized shirt that one person dismisses as 'too casual' becomes effortlessly chic on someone who knows how to wear it. A loose dress, wide-leg trousers or else else else a simple linen set can make just as much of a statement as the latest runway trend. Style is not always about what you wear, It is about how you wear it.
Comfort gives you something trends often cannot, confidence. When you're not constantly adjusting your clothes, pulling at a tight waistband or else else else counting the minutes until you can change into something else, you are free to be present. You smile more, you move naturally, you carry yourself differently...and that confidence becomes part of your outfit. I have stopped seeing comfort as settling for less. Instead, I see it as choosing myself. So, who says comfort can't be beautiful? Who says comfort can't be stylish? Who says comfort can't be fashionable? Perhaps we've been asking the wrong question all along. Instead of asking whether comfort is stylish enough, maybe we should be asking why style has ever been expected to come at the expense of comfort.
These days, I no longer choose comfort over style. I choose comfort as my style, because the best outfit you will ever wear is one that lets you breathe, move and feel completely yourself.
